NYC Charter Revision Ballot Measures For the Nov. 4 General Election, voters will decide on five ballot proposals (Props 2-6) to revise the New York City Charter. A city charter is the foundation of a local government and functions as the municipal equivalent of a constitution, setting out guiding principles for governance and the basic rules for governmental operations. Read on for each proposal and why DC 37 delegates voted to oppose each one. Proposition 2: Fast-track affordable housing review process The proposal allows for some publicly funded affordable housing projects to seek zoning relief from the Board of Standards and Appeals instead of going through the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) process. JOIN US TO DEFEND OUR DEMOCRACY AT NO KINGS MARCH This Saturday, DC 37 will gather with our union allies to speak out against the president sidestepping democracy and prioritizing billionaires over the working class again and again. From the “Big Beautiful Bill” stripping health care coverage and food assistance from millions of Americans, to sending militarized police into our communities and silencing dissenters and journalists, this administration has proved in just a short time that it does not have our backs. The president’s illegal elimination of collective bargaining rights for over one million federal workers should put us all on alert as union members. DC 37 is organizing with the Central Labor Council and other NYC unions for a Labor Delegation feeder march to join up with the anchor No Kings event. DC 37 members will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Street subway station, located at the intersection of Spring Street and 6th Avenue, and proceed with the labor delegation as we march north toward West 14th Street. Wear green, make signs, and help us say: No Kings in America! WHEN: Saturday, October 18 | 10:30 a.m. WHERE: DC 37’s assembly point at the subway station at Spring Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan Register HERE. — Oct 16

Health Benefit Improvements On the Way for City Workers DC 37 Family, I have great news to share with you and your loved ones. This week, DC 37 and our union partners in the Municipal Labor Committee (MLC) approved a proposed health plan for city workers, pre-Medicare retirees, and your dependents: the NYC Employees PPO (NYCE PPO) Plan. After years of rigorous research, discussions, and negotiations with potential providers and the City of New York, we have developed a modernized, equitable health plan that enhances and expands access to premium-free care— all while lowering your out-of-pocket costs. The NYCE PPO Plan, provided jointly by EmblemHealth and UnitedHealthcare, is the first new health care plan for city workers in over four decades. By following an extensive negotiated acquisition process over the past two years, we were able to address your concerns with the existing plan while reining in the costs that threaten the premium-free benefits you rely on. (You can view a side-by-side comparison of the new and existing PPO plans here). Not only do you get to keep your doctors through EmblemHealth’s network in the New York City metropolitan area, but the new plan also taps into UnitedHealthcare’s national network, expanding access for the more than 80,000 pre-Medicare retirees who [...] — Oct 2
