AFSCME Health Care Reform Blueprint
Local 154 Helped to Develop National Policy
We are proud to report that AFSCME Blueprint on Health
Care Reform is based on a Resolution presented by Local 154 together with the
work of other three Local Unions through the country.
In preparation for the 2006 AFSCME convention in
Chicago, President Fernández drafted a Resolution spelling out our
member's needs and concerns regarding health care coverage. The Local 154
Delegates traveling to Chicago decided to endorse President Fernández'
document and present it at the Convention. The Delegates Assembly in Chicago
combined it with three other documents sharing similar concerns. The result
became AFSCME Health Care Reform Blueprint 2006-2008. Such work directs AFSCME
International policy on such an important matter.
The existence of 47 million people without health
coverage in the country, the high cost of treatments, medications and health
care, plus the continuous threat of higher costs for coverage make necessary to
establish long term goals for protecting this important right. Read the details
