Law School Prepares for Contract Negotiations

The members at New York Law School (NYLS) are preparing for a new round of contract negotiations. Since their current contract will expire on June 2008, the officers of Local 154 are making preparations to work with the members at NYLS to develop a list of negotiation demands.

Local 154 represents workers in the titles of Administrative Assistant, Clerical Aide, Library Information Specialist, Technical Support Assistant and Purchasing Assistant. The NYLS is the newest of the Local 154 Chapters. It was created in 1994 after an intense Union organizing drive initiated by the members. They felt that having a Union at the Law School would help make a difference in their working and economic conditions.

Chapter Chair and Local 154 Executive Board member Egbert Isaacs has been a driving force for the Law School Chapter since 1994. A veteran of the organizing drive, he brings his experience and talents in the day-to-day representation of the members.

The members at NYLS will meet with President Juan Fernández, Chapter Chair Egbert Isaacs and DC 37 negotiators to set up the tone of the upcoming negotiations during the first week of February.
